Bali Diving Manta Point

Manta Ray Diving and Snorkeling at Manta Point

Do you want to experience Manta Ray Diving or Snorkeling in Bali? These graceful and huge animals are simply amazing. Diving or snorkeling with these marine creatures are a life changing experience.

Manta Ray Diving is Awesome

Diving or snorkeling with Manta Rays in Bali is one of the best outdoor activities around the Island of the Gods. This is Manta Ray Diving at its best! It is an exciting day trip that takes you all the way out to Nusa Penida Island. This place is home to many amazing dive sites, especially for drift divers and underwater photographers.

These amazing dives sites are suitable only if your have been certified as Open Water Diver. This means, for safety reasons, we will not accept non certified divers to Manta Point. At Nico Dives Cool we take customer safety and satisfaction very seriously.

Of course, just like the weather, nature is unpredictable. While we can encounter Manta Rays all year round, Manta Rays also go on ‘vacation’ from time to time. Usually this is for a week or so and it can happen two to three times a year. Our highly experienced dive guides, SSI and PADI instructors, will do their best to find these amazing creatures for you. And if there is little chance to see them we definitely will let you know upfront. Please note though, that we simply cannot guarantee sightings, although over 95% of the time we do!

In the Morning – Getting Ready for Manta Point

In the morning we pick you up in one of our air-conditioned buses. After checking-in at the dive shop, we fill out any documentation, handle the payment. Most importantly, however, we make sure your diving gear suits you perfectly and make the final adjustment. We use Apeks regulators and Aqualung BCDs for the best possible comfort underwater.

Because we are a small family dive shop, and only accept a handful of guests, this usually goes very quickly. You are not just another number to us, we prefer to get to know you.

Now that we have all our gear set-up we make our way to Semawang in Sanur. This is the ‘port’ from where we board a speed boat to make our way to Manta Point South of Nusa Penida. This is a thrilling ride that takes us alongside the amazing cliffside of Nusa Penida. You’re gonna love it.

Before boarding we make sure all our gear and lunch are taken on board. Lastly, we fill out the safety documentation with your details for the marine authorities. We are now all set to begin our 45min thrill ride to Manta Point. Once arrived and ready, we enter the water via back-roll entry and dive towards the the Manta Ray cleaning station.

The phenomenal experience of Manta Ray Diving

Manta Ray Diving in Bali is simply amazing. These graceful creatures are attracted by plankton and nutrition that comes with it. This is similar to the majestic whalesharks which you might have heard of or seen before.

If you choose to snorkel don’t be afraid to miss out. You will very likely have a fabulous view of the manta rays, as they come very close to the surface. They often hover above the cleaning station which is less than 3-4m from you depending on tidal movements.

The Manta Rays in Bali can grow to a wingspan of over 3m (>9ft) length. Their smooth gliding and quick burst moves make a surreal underwater show. They are certainly not shy, and often come very close to you, but we always try to keep our distance not to disturb them. After all, we are visiting them in their territory.

Usually we spend about 10 to 15 minutes at the cleaning station and make our way to the plateau. On the way, we might encounter more flybys with the Manta Rays. During the colder dry months (June to October) we might have a chance to see the famous and gigantic Ocean Sunfish (aka Mola Mola).

Next Stop – Crystal Bay

After Manta Point we usually go diving or snorkeling at Crystal Bay. For that we use our surface interval to make our way up to the South West side of Nusa Penida. Depending on currents, conditions, and visibility we might pick another dive or snorkel site. However, Crystal Bay, as the name suggests, offers crystal clear waters usually. The coral reef here is huge, healthy, colorful, and abundant of marine life.

Once we finish our surface interval (if diving) we jump back into the water. Diving here is sublime. So is snorkeling. This is one of our favorite dive sites in Bali and it never disappoints. Currents can be unpredictable here, so always listen and follow your experienced dive guide. If snorkeling we will bring along a safety buoy and/or floatation device for your safety. Your guide will take great care of you on your Bali Day Trip out.

We often encounter turtles, sea snakes, crabs, mantis shrimp, and tonnes of fish species. From June to October we have a fairly good chance to encounter the ocean sunfish (mola mola). These giant fish come up from the depth of the ocean to encounter cleaning fish. Weighing up to 1,000kg (about 2,000lbs) these creatures are a magnificent sight.

Optional Diving/ Snorkeling

Depending on your booking we can have a third dive or snorkel a third site around Nusa Lembongan. We highly recommend a third dive. This is snorkeling or diving with a medium to strong current across a huge and beautiful coral reef alongside the beach. The coral is in perfect shape here, marine life is abundant. And because of the drift caused by the current we cover an amazing distance almost entirely effortlessly. If you want to do your current and drift diver specialty, this is one amazing dive spot to do it.

Afternoon – We conclude our Manta Ray Diving or Snorkeling Day Trip

Once we have dive two or three sites around Nusa Penida, we make our way back to Sanur. You will receive fresh towels from us and can take a quick shower directly at the beach. We will bring you back to your hotel directly once we reach the main land. Of course, all along we offer you water, fruits, and snacks. As an eco-dive shop, we try to avoid plastic wrappers where we can.

If you want to make a booking you can contact us via WhatsApp or write us an email. One of our friendly office staff will help you and advise you on any questions you might have. We are sure this will be one of your highlights during your stay in Bali!
