Are you looking to become a tech diver? To dive deeper, farther, or longer than you ever have before? Begin your technical diving journey and extend your range with the SSI Extended Range 45 course.
The SSI Extended Range 45 training program is the core program that all other open-circuit programs build on. This program is the start of your exciting journey to become an accomplished tech diver.
Using either a sidemount or twinset configuration, this program prepares you to plan and conduct decompression dives for a maximum accelerated decompression time of 25 minutes to a maximum depth of 45 meters. You will learn the techniques and nitrox mixtures of up to 100% oxygen for decompression. You will earn the SSI Extended Range 45 diver certification after completing this program and gain new tech diver knowledge.
– Using either a sidemount or twinset configuration, this program prepares you to plan and conduct decompression dives for a maximum of 25 minutes of accelerated decompression using up to 100% oxygen to a maximum depth of 45 meters.
– This advanced program teaches you the techniques and procedures for using breathing gases up to 100% oxygen for decompression.
– Practice more Advanced Buoyancy & Trim: achieve perfect trim and buoyancy control.
– Master Propulsion & Positioning: advanced finning techniques (frog kick, backward kick, helicopter turns) and body positioning.
– Learn how to do a team gas switch, reach valves, and switch gases instinctively without thinking.
– Learn all the emergency skills (air sharing using a long hose, bringing an unconscious diver to the surface, deco stage exchange, etc.).
– Mastery of Technical Equipment Configurations: learning to manage more than one cylinder (twinset or sidemount) and the associated redundancy. Training on how to properly rig, carry, and “switch” to a side-slung stage tank containing your decompression gas.
– Learning complex gas management (the “Rule of Thirds”) to ensure you always have enough gas for yourself and a teammate in an emergency.
– Communication: use clear underwater communication signals.
– You will learn to use specialized decompression software to create ‘what-if’ contingency plans, ensuring you can precisely manage your gas reserves and decompression obligations even if the unexpected happens.
– Skill refinement: perfect your technical skills, build deep muscle memory for enhanced safety and comfort in demanding environments.
– Experienced Divers Transitioning to Tech: Open Water and Advanced divers ready to move beyond recreational limits and master technical diving using a sidemount or twinset configuration, typically following the completion of their XR Foundations training.
– Divers seeking a modular progression: Those who have already completed the Extended Range 40 program and wish to “upgrade” their skills to include 5 extra meters of depth and more complex decompression procedures using 100% oxygen.
– Deep Diving Enthusiasts: Divers looking to bridge the gap between recreational limits and full technical diving, providing a solid foundation in gas switching and accelerated decompression.
– Extended Exploration at 45 Meters: Unlock the ability to stay longer at significant depths, allowing you to explore wrecks and reefs that are far beyond recreational limits.
– The Gateway to Full Technical Diving: Successfully transition into the technical world by mastering staged decompression and managing multiple cylinders in either a twinset or sidemount configuration.
– Highly Efficient Accelerated Decompression: Learn to use breathing gases up to 100% oxygen to drastically speed up nitrogen off-gassing, making your ascent safer, shorter, and more physiologically efficient.
– Precision Gas & Mission Planning: Gain the skills to use decompression software and “what-if” contingency planning, turning complex dive logistics into a manageable and professional routine.
– Mastery of Advanced Equipment: Achieve total competence in managing a primary twinset or sidemount rig along with a side-slung stage cylinder, ensuring complete redundancy and safety.
– Elite Skill Levels: Develop “technical-level” buoyancy, trim, and propulsion techniques (like the helicopter turn and back-kick) that make you a more competent and respected diver in any environment.
– Foundation for Trimix: Build the essential muscle memory and procedures required to progress toward Technical Extended Range and Hypoxic Trimix diving.
